Idk how to explain it, but i usually shade the roots, make it lighter at the ends, shade the strands, and add spikey highlights and call it good enough. But honestly just experiement with multiple different ways and im sure you'll find your style for it! Goodluck! :D

He works in a very water color like manner. Barely any colors are used on the skin. Lot's of areas are left white. black surfaces are usually just flat ink. Clothes also tend to be flat colors (with some minor lighting details), unless he wants to make something look rubbery.
