My Favourite C64 Budget Games No.19

Chimera

Firebird 1986

At £3.99 Chimera was a bit pricier than your average budget title but it was worth it. Lovely colourful isometric graphics, a fab Hubbard SID tune & utterly absorbing gameplay make it an excellent arcade adventure.

It's time for the quarterly plug.

I've got a patreon; where i lift the veil on NES game design, graphics, music, tool- & NES programming. It's more detailed than what I tweet, & more frequent than my blog. I post around 3 times/month; usually more.

My Favourite C64 Platformers No.6

Nebulus

Hewson 1987

Nebulus was absolutely stunning when first encountered in '87. The revolving tower, ace graphics, cool inter-level parallax scrolling shooter sections, its originality & superb design. Wow. An outstanding 80s platform game.

If you create or use vector graphics, you'll want to check this out: A challenger to the throne of vector graphics. SVG is dead, long live TinyVG! https://t.co/vrrkhVDxBy

Today's scrimblo of the day is Astal from Astal for the Sega Saturn! The game features entirely hand-drawn graphics, giving it a unique look.

Not to mention the other many cool retro games he's made. Monsters of Terror is still one of my favourites. A port of Wizard of Wor, with AGA graphics, and up to four human and/or CPU players. (And digitised C64 sound effects, for that extra retro feel.) 😎

My favourite C64 Shoot ‘em ups – No.6

Choplifter!

Broderbund 1982

One of the first-ever C64 shoot 'em ups, Choplifter! is a cracking port of the Apple original. Atmospheric, tense, and with simple but superbly animated graphics, it’s supremely playable and loads of fun.

Some cutesy 420 graphics, my original design. Wdy think?

Spider-Man, in my own personal opinion, will always be the best superhero. He is not only popular and notorious in all demographics, but he is the perfect archetype of what a superhero should be.

Russ Mills

His work is an underworld between urban fine arts and contemporary graphics, a collision of real and digital media, illustration with a firm foundation in drawing and focusing on the human form, particularly the face.

This is like a 2006 but improved, look at those graphics, I'm too excited. Next year will certainly be the year of Sonic. I love you Sega💙✨

My favourite C64 Shoot ‘em ups – No.21

Mutants

Ocean 1987

Cool, psychedelic graphics, fantastic Fred Gray SIDs, superbly designed & very original, Mutants is a bit of a forgotten gem. Challenging & compelling, it’s a reminder that Ocean published some highly innovative titles.
