Today is Palm Sunday, the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week. Although we can’t celebrate this holy day of obligation together, we remember this commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before he was crucified.

On this blessed day, the Christian community observes Palm Sunday in commemoration of the entrance of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. As we enter Holy Week, may we take this time to be grateful and forgiving, repenting our sins as we await the arrival of our Savior.

Our major exhibition, Hebrew Manuscripts: Journeys of the Written Word, opens on 20 March.

Which got us thinking about representations of Jerusalem from the western tradition.

Work in Progress: The road from Jericho to Jerusalem, ‘the way of blood’ was a dangerous place to be! It was the setting for the Good Samaritan. Next I will add the figures of Jesus and his followers on the path. “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem.”

IF YOU'RE IN LONDON, take time to visit the British Museum to admire the Warren Cup. This 1st-Century silver goblet proves that gay parties were popular in the Jerusalem area during the time of Jesus. Why then, is the supposed Son of God silent about our so-called 'grave sin'?

In 1902, Alphonse Mucha was commissioned to decorate a church in Jerusalem dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Shown here is 'Madonna of the Lilies', one of the murals for the church. The project was cancelled later for unknown reasons, so all that remains of this commission is this 🖼
