This would have been quite cool with a serial-link option. I wonder if they ever contemplated that? That would have allowed the possibility of four-player with everyone using a mouse. (The problem with new players to the game was that joystick controls weren't at all intuitive.)

Also.. Why did I not make sure you had a parallel-port joystick adaptor when you were here? 🕹️ This is the perfect game to make use of one of those. I believe there is an explicit exception in these lock-down laws that gatherings to play Hired Guns and Dynablaster are allowed. 😉

I have had problems with my internet, I think they will remove it :)
I'll solve it, while I still want to upload something! I loved this boy, was a mainly because of the joystick and the position of the hands, I think they didn't go so bad, right?

I really got into Uchi Mata back in the day. It's one that needs a joystick to play properly, as it has all these rolling movements to execute any of the throws. (Like fire, hold 🡐, then move 🡗 🡓 🡖 🡒, then 🡐 to do the title-move.) 😮

You know, Combat School on the C64 is really quite a cool game. It's like Hyper Sports or Track 'n Field, but with guns. 😁 It's mostly the target-range events that I enjoy with this one. The first stage, with all the joystick waggling is fun - real hard to do with keyboard FWIW.

Hmmm. 🤔
Oh, I think the problem was me! 😁
I'm old, with slow-reactions these days (and am too lazy to break out the old C64/Amiga joysticks sometimes).. So the C64 and Amstrad ones I eventually cheated on for an easy play-through. I couldn't find a good cheat Speccy version. 😋

UPDATE:

The game has been found thanks to someone who replied to a post I made about it on r/tipofmyjoystick

Looks like I got a few details wrong on the character, but otherwise not bad considering that I was going off of a memory from almost 20 years ago.

Yesterday’s quarantine project with roomie! This was fun but then we realized the joystick was still drifting so next project: install replacement joystick.

Yeah, that's part of why people find the old 8-bit stuff so tricky. (Quite apart from the lag in modern systems+displays.) 📺 Joystick games often needed quite a bit of dexterity of movement. In the joy-pad era it went much more to multiple buttons, and movement+button combo's.

Yeah. The Cycling and Fencing events needs you to do a smooth circular motion of the joystick, which is just impossible to do with the keyboard. The Judo game, Uchi Mata is similarly tricky without a stick. I'm lucky in that I never got rid of the old C64/Amiga joysticks. 👍

His name is Georby
What are those on his torso? Buttons!
Plus a "belly button"
And you hold his hands to use the joysticks!

I put a ton of credits into the Karate Champ arcade game. The two-joystick controls was really cool once you got the hang of it. So I was surprised when someone was able to think up a way of getting just about as many moves out of a game on the humble C64. Saved me much money. 😁

My joystick on my lite started drifting so i'm having fun trying to import memes into the pattern maker than playing any games rn.
