Atsuko Nishida já tinha trabalhado para a Game Freak antes de se aventurar em Pulseman, jogo do Mega Drive que tentava ser o rival do MegaMan do SuperNintendo, lançado em 1994. Foi assim que ela e Sugimori (diretor de design da franquia) se conheceram.
