If not fussed over, color is scarcely more trouble than linework. I'm torn between the traditional beginning of the line sketch and jumping right into painting to convey gesture, mass, and light in a timely manner.

I feel my most expressive work is in the early drafts, therefore I want to color my sketches. But I get a lot of erratic deadening disclarity when I color sketches the same way I color proper linework.
