In case you don't know which ones I mean, here they are. I believe they started making them in this style when Build aired. What's really cool is that they always do straps with the non-transformed characters as well! They also do a great job capturing the personalities.

My working theory on how to write noir/hard-boiled fiction.
1. Immediately bring the reader into the murder scene,
or the emotional setup leading to a murder.

2. Make both the main good guys, the bad guys, with genuine personalities. The personalities should be complex

Solution is to make the backgrounds characters. Try to give 'em personalities.
