I'm not free from the trope either. Nala used to have longer hair, and as time goes on, her hair get progressively shorter (and bit messier). From the age of 13, 19, 22, to 27.

No need to apologize! 🙏🏽 (Sorry I'm on my phone so I can't draw a custom example, but) you could always:
- add more tiny spines
- bend/flip them to go in different directions
- make them longer/shorter
Yeah!! I'm personally a fan of the tiny quills (like pictures 2 and 3).
