Early stage of a quick little whatever sketch. So relieved since I started using poser apps so I can stress a bit less. Values only for the first time in a long time!

I honestly don’t think I’ll ever return to stanning live action movies/TV. Watch me stan original stories/characters not only beautifully crafted but written with their/it’s inherent importance and values at the forefront. I’m in awe of how big/vast this anime world is

(finding nowadays my sketch "lines" get thicker and thicker till they are just a sad excuse for paint lol though I tend to figure out values in colour roughs later)

Recycled in another random corner of my home. I'm pretty sure there are enough quarters in there for a small pizza 🤞

I did Sojiro so dirty and I hate the drawing I did of him so I redrew him and he’s better than that drawing so ye. And I changed Eclair’s color palette because the values where to similar to each other. And Eclair simps for 5 people Sojiro is just the first person she simps for.

Drew Gayle for an art contest!

"Gayle is of the selfless sort that values camaraderie above all else. She's only happy when everybody else is. Needless to say, she keeps her friends in good spirits."

Probably the last update before I finish this.

That's naturally not the actual background, just an idea of values and composition.

Was experimenting with values for characters and thought if Margot had good values. So I tried out a different color scheme for her. Dunno if it's final but I do like it.

You've done it in that first piece- in areas that aren't your focus, lose your edges into the background. Then really hit detail hard in your focus areas

Here's an example - the bottom right is just colour. This (and my values) forces the viewer to look at my focal area (face)-

And shows you your values. I've just desaturated your piece here as an example - see how nothing really pops and the lions fade a bit too much into the background?

Your focal highlights should pop out, which is really tricky when they're the same colour as the background!--

Learning that values matter.

The Sketch / The Painting

(Some people do gorgeous precise lineart and I am very jealous of them but that's... not me. I need to feel like I have a handle on the colour/values/atmosphere before committing; the details come later.)
