Depends but I usually start by making a rough sketch using shapes to figure out the form with minor details kinda like what's shown below

I later redo said sketch with more details and cleaner linework until I reach the desired results

they are *heavily* inspired by the main characters of Disco Elysium and I ain't even subtle lol
I reworked their backstories and changed parts of their designs but kept core elements, so I'd say I used the characters and game lore as a base (I play as Kim tho)
