We demonstrated the method on Trix (RGM.792000) the #Tyrannosaurus rex in the collection of @museumnaturalis, @Naturalis_Sci. Trix has fantastic preservation of the tail vertebrae, allowing us to perform a 3D muscular & ligament reconstruction.
@arrroberts Working on a story about a robot invertebrate sent from the annelid future to clear the decks for those that creep upon the Earth....it's....THE......WORMINATOR
@DustinGrowick That’s a no brainer @DustinGrowick, gotta be my family first and foremost (pic courtesy of @Blackmudpuppy). My second has to be stream ecology and the invertebrates that inhabit them
#BSDBGenSoc2021 @VS_Marine asks how did paired fins emerge over evolution? Fate mapping in the skate embryo indicates an ancestral mesodermal contribution to the jawed vertebrate gill arch skeleton. See recent @eLife paper with @GillisLab:

250 million years in the making: The Triassic Vertebrate Paleontology Meetup (online) #TVPM2021: tickets £5/£10 now available! Presenters be sure to register (deadline 7 May) & give information on your presentation into the Google Form linked there. https://t.co/0kIXVcwAcn
'The neck's best thing'
Azhdarchid Pterosaurs, largest flying animals ever, had much longer necks than giraffes! #scientists have just observed a unique structure in #fossil vertebrae which 'spoked volumes' & made them possible.

Niv's working hard to put together every bit of clinical evidence she can, mapping entheses expected to be affected. For example, in ALS we often see neck extensor weakness ("dropped head syndrome")- we should be able to see that change quite clearly in the vertebrae! 7/8
My brain is away with early Jurassic marine reptiles this #FossilFriday, so here's the #paleoart mural I did of Rhomaleosaurus and friends for @SMTrust in 2018. We put this together pretty quickly - I wanted more fish and invertebrates but time wasn't on our side.
The diplodocus, a large sauropod (long-neck), holds the record for having the longest tail! It sported around 80 caudal vertebra (wayyy more than any other sauropod); some scientists believe it could have used its tail like a whip to hit attacking predators
I officially have a PhD! 🎓🎉 I worked in evo-devo of shark teeth and evolution of vertebral mineralisation in cartilaginous fishes!🦈Still fond of chondrichthyans 😁

Gonna call this done. @/skumhuu 's Leviathantale featuring Oops God Of Reality: Legacy. He's a pikaia, once thought to be the evolutionary source of all vertebrates. (Zom is there too, for size. He's a Stygiomedusa Gigantea)
Original art in the bottom left is Sku's!! For size!!!
What a great end to the week! My student @M_J_Mitchell_'s new paper is out now in @BiolJLinnSoc! We've been working for years on understanding modularity patterns in the vertebrate skull, but how do these patterns stack up within a species? Find out now! https://t.co/eR8vfVVFFM
Phylogeny is one of my favorite subjects. Well of course, I study it. But it also connects you to every species that has ever lived on Earth! I drew this vertebrate phylogeny in 2015 as an undergrad. It needs many updates... https://t.co/JW7e8Z1RRb #SciArtTweetStorm #SciArt

Pretty exciting to see the new #abelisaurid #Llukalkan aliocranianus from the Santonian of Neuquén, #Argentina, just published in Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology by Federico Gianechini et al. Known from great remains! Cont... #dinosaurs
The only respectable vertebrates are fishes. Please join me and the rest of #TeamFish on the hill we shall die on.
So @habaneroach brought up the concept of invertebrate Sonic characters, with a Big-inspired Tardigrade being one idea, and I wanted to try making one.
Getting it to at least look like the species while keeping a Sonic feel was a fun challenge, and I'm happy with the results!
