Sharing some steps of this commission! Ive tried a different approach, starting the colors with a correction layer->gradient map and went from there. Its also from an angle Im not used + BG, nothing too fancy Ik but Im proud of how it turned out. (:

I usually do lineless with gradients for shading. It's easier then having to do lienart and color. It's faster too. I also blur it to help make it look farther away... examples

not exactly the re-make i had in mind but its mostly here! it might get improved at some points but he's back with slightly better topology, an improved sillhouete, gradient textures (massive upgrade i know) and now a tail, to make it more obviously imp like

After that it's time to bring in the flood of effects ✨❄️
I painted the blue eye to look illuminated.. i tried
blurred the stuff that's further away for the macro blur look
Also I shaved a bit of the face shape during painting for that ikemen look
