The only reason he looked like modern Eggman is because Adventure came out and they had to make up a reason to change his look to match.

Back in 2012 I tried to re-draw Bionik from memory. Obviously parts of him are robotic/cyborg-ish, and now that I'm thinking back on it, I believe one of his arms was exposed as such (another completely original idea, never done before 😂)
