Been brainstorming some more aliens. These are the O'tan, a species that's split itself into two distinct groups: Futurists (right) who strive for scientific advancement and Traditionalists (left) who prefer the old ways. Needless to say, they don't get along.

Faction aesthetics need to be so distinct too, but also call back to each other. Nunzio on the left is from The New Court, and Yigi is from The Metalbusters. Both are using pieces of Crypto-Confederacy tech from different eras.

Oni Tank T-34 and Metal Detector are Yugioh cards with really cool, distinctive mechanical designs that don't really resemble any other artworks at the time.

The latter looks like it belongs in the Pokemon TCG.

It's a shame YGO doesn't credit its artists...
