On February 18, 1817, Johannes Bosboom was born. This watercolour from is very typical for his earlier church interiors: historically dressed staffage in over-sized churches. He would become one of the forebears of the Hague School.

Day11.....my little town of 70ish people had three churches & 4 cemeteries! HOLY DEAD PEOPLE BATMAN! I was told their was a 4th church but it was destroyed in a tornado in the late 1800's & they never rebuilt.

From the farm to the city. We drove to and it could not be more different to the Lakes District. Except for the churches! Tall spires poking through, pointing heavenward. Ever friendly clouds cottonwooling our travels. “Glasgow Cathedral”, 15X20cm.

I wasn't going to do two churches in a row, but my father requested I draw his friend's church, which we visited our first day in Hampshire. Parts date back to the 11th century but there was too much garden to get a more interesting view.
