Sonic's arms used to get "buffer" during his Super Sonic transformation in Sonic 2. This was later removed in Sonic 3 and later transformations from future games.

With that in mind (and for indirectly giving me the idea), here's Super Sonic if he was REALLY buff instead:

i approached these mostly just by eyeballing them to make sure they felt appropriate next to sonic's, but i did try to examine the way the palettes affected sonic's different shades & extrapolate from them what the color layering was

Nah it's not just you. It throws off his proportions. Sonic's modern look was made with his long quills in mind. So keeping his proportions long while his quills are shorter, looks off. Sonic with shorter quills works better if his body is shorter too like here

So this one was actually inspired by one of Hyper Sonic's sprites in Sonic RPG episode 10. It didn't come out like I originally visioned, but I still love the end result I got. Definitely my best Sonic art to date.

I've done one of Sonic's 'Surfing' Sprites from Sonic 3's 1993 Prototype as a Sonic 3 styled Sprite. I also based the Sprite on a few of his 'Snowboarding' Sprites as well!

My AU calls him Nikki and he's just Sonic's undercover persona for a story arc, not so much a different person. May bring him back sometime :)

Also he's brown because of the western Sonic origin story from the 90's.

I have made my own Version of Sonic's 2nd Unused 'Sneezing' Sprite from Sonic CD.

It was going to be a Sonic Mania styled Sprite at first but I wasn't able to Replicate his Facial Expression with his Tan Eyelids. :')
