Those people need to read my Dragon Ball Culture books. Toriyama repeatedly complains about his editor flat-out negating his ideas with the phrase "Rejected!!" Or he'd reshape Toriyama's ideas in ways he was forced to comply with. This first timeskip is discussed in DBC Volume 5.
