And here are the colored versions of my trace monotype prints! The assignment gave us the option to color them if we wished, so I added light, loose colored pencil marks. I didn't want to obscure the original ink by coloring too much.

Edgar Degas (1834-1917) discovered the freedom of monotypes in the 1870s. He made over 200 monotypes - smudgy, fast drawings in ink on glass that become one-off prints. His subject was the brothels of Paris, as popularised by the novels of Émile Zola & Huysmans.

This is the beginning of my I Spy! I have been exploring and I love the textures you can create using monoprint, it encouraged me to try different tools to make marks. I printed each layer individually, and then collaged in photoshop.
