while it is a successor to the Jamru Fin, which the text says was meant to be Big Zam-sized but got trimmed down, the Zamuru actually is that big. per this diagram, if Woundwort is 18m, then Zamuru is just about 60m tall

And they didn't, just lighted up the colors, gave Yakko and Wakko hair on their heads, made them a bit more edged, and put less peddles on Dot's flower thing. They REALLY didn't change that much, especially when you consider the concept art for the reboot.
