The second and third episodes of Blue Sub no. 6 are a fascinating dichotomy of animation direction. On the left Koichi Arai opted to respect Range Murata's round faces while on the right Takeshi Honda decided he was working on Evangelion instead. Both equally excellent and valid.

Welcome to my Today is the first of the four cardinal directions, 北, north!

One thing I noticed is that the 'direction' kanji are used in a lot of Japanese place names. 北 is part of 北海道 (Hokkaido) and 北岳 (Kitadake).

Public domain allows artists to take works from the past and transform them into new creations. Once the original creators have gotten all possible royalties even past death, why not let people take the work in a new direction? It’s incredible for artists.
