Ironically it does look more like a heart in the Chapter 1 sprites, but it may be that they used dark green for the "stem" of the spade instead of black, and since it's the same color as the shading it didn't stand out so much and thus we got the fanon black heart design.

Yoshiki is the peak of '06 "cool guy" and i fucking love it. the leather coat, the goofy necklace, the funky shades, the nicotine addiction, it's like he was developed in a lab to be THE mid-2000's alpha male. i cant get enough of his design.
