Loch Iorsa on the Isle of Arran has it's very own monster myth.
The loch's name means 'loch of the serpents'. This serpent is perhaps a wurm: a dragon with no legs nor wings from folklore.

The Tarasque was an unusual dragon from Provence, France, 'fatter than an ox with a lion’s face and head, a horse’s mane, its back as sharp as an axe, bristling and piercing scales, six feet with bear’s claws, a serpent’s tail, and a shell like a tortoise.' [1/4]

This illustration from Harley MS 3244 f.59, mid 13th Century England, has been said to be the earliest fully-fledged modern Western-style dragon. Before this they were depicted as giant serpents or wyrms. Anyone know of any earlier representations?

The Stoorwyrm was a giant sea serpent in Orcadian folklore. In legend it was slain by Assipattle, a young farm boy who, when swallowed by it, plunged burning peat into its liver. It’s death throws turned the sky black and caused great earthquakes.

King Ghidorah. He was my fave monster as a villain-loving kid. Despite Ghidorah’s serpentine nature, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a legless version before! Thus, mine is an undulating golden sky dragon.

Tried doing refs a little differently again, introducing Slider the snake-alchemist! A serpent who messes around and makes plenty of potions, causing an arm of his to go gooey and giving him access to an anthro state, can switch between states

Serpent-like symbols on Pictish stones (like this Highland example, now in ) have fuelled the Loch Ness monster legend for centuries 🐍

Over 1,200 years after it was carved, the story continued when the first reported photo of the beast was published in 1934.
