My painting process.
1. Rough sketch for ideas.
2. Greyscale paint.
3. Decide the light source and ambient light.
4. Colour using overlay.
5. Start painting and blocking process.
6. Add details.
7. Add lighting effect using colour dodge, hard light, soft light etc.
8. Finish.

I wouldn't consider myself an expert, but I did notice a couple things in this stage that might be able to help you.
One tip is to never use straight blacks or greys. I added a touch more red to the grey here and it fits better in the scene. In a cool-toned setting you might-
