Turning nature into art: the pioneering naturalist, entomologist & artist Maria Sibylla Merian died #OTD in 1717. She travelled the world & created brilliant drawings & illustrations of plants & insects, making detailed notes on the behaviour & life cycle of butterflies.
We picked up some glow in the dark paint for the rocks so i made a character who will be heaps of fun to paint glow in the dark 💙This is Glitterdust, he lives inside a cave and the stars on his back shine brightly in the black depths attracting insects which he eats to survive.
So many great guesses! This week’s #NameThatThing answer is the belly of a caterpillar, and specifically a Fig Sphinx Moth (Pachylia ficus) caterpillar in @EvergladesNPS. Check back Wednesday for my next challenge! #scicomm #becurious #insects @inaturalist https://t.co/gPidaKtOgx

#insectoftheday no.5: Migrant Hawker @hilbrebirdobs. One of 19 Odonata species found so far on this tiny tidal island with one small pond. It's a great place to see how many insects fly large distances.
N: It's impossible for me to make a single list about favourite characters without mentioning Nausicaä... I love that one of the tracks on the OST is called "The Princess Who Loves Insects"

No. 49: Venomoth
Poison Moth Pokémon
Venomoth are nocturnal — they only are active at night. Their favorite prey are insects that gather around streetlights, attracted by the light in the darkness.
