Megaman 11 is a surprisingly good 2d platformer and i 100% recommend it for any platformer/run and gun fan out there. The level design is amazing and the bosses are fun and creative. If you haven't played it yet, try the demo, but i highly recommend you buy it.

The more detailed style along with the metallic/glossy/energy materials on semi-humanoid animals is what does it, I think.

Not meant as a criticism at all, btw! Yours are more sleek and would fit much better in Pokemon than these:

Day 7: Sphere Doomer EX
Mid-bosses from Kirby's Return to Dream Land, they're the Extra Mode equivalent of normal Sphere Doomers, they gain new attacks in this form.
There's 4 types and they get progressivly stronger with each one.
Hologram versions also appear in Planet Robobot
