1809年のこの日、英国のフレデリック・バーソロミュー・フォルシュ氏が金属製の軸内にインクを貯蔵できる筆記具を考案、特許を取得した事が由来。

近年万年筆はあまり利用されなくなりましたが、希少性や独自性が見直され、趣味の高級文具として人気が高いそうです。
