今日は、スケートの日。日本スケート場協会が1982年に制定。1861年のこの日、函館に滞在していたイギリスの探検家トーマス・ライト・ブラキストンが、日本で初めてスケートをした。これとは別に、1792年にロシアの使節一行が根室で一冬を過ごした時に、結氷した根室湾内で滑ったのが日本初とする説も。
