Pterosaurs had FEATHERS!?! In a 🌟NEW🌟 study released in @nature: Ecology and Evolution today shows that two anurognathid #pterosaur fossils found in China had primitive feathers to help keep them warm just like many #dinosaurs.

In 2013, myself and colleagues named the new azhdarchoid pterosaur Vectidraco daisymorrisae, known only for a small pelvis and some vertebrae. It had been discovered on the Isle of Wight by 5-yr-old Daisy Morris. The paper is #OA: https://t.co/wKAqf5RPPe #pterosaurs #pterosaurs
New #pterosaur species from South of France: Mistralazhdarcho maggii https://t.co/OlEkhcHg2k Pterosaurs are extinct flying reptiles. This youngster's wings stretched out to about 4,5 m, and could go up to 6 m later in life. Not bad eh? Same family as Quetzalcoatlus! #FossilFriday
This is Orville, a character from my K: BTS AU and a member of the Dracomatter Squad. He is a Pteromatter, a Dracomatter variant that is themed after pterosaurs. Orville is the group's aerial attack specialist. He is named after Orville Wright of the Wright Brothers.
I was very excited to try my hand at the age-old trope of mosasaurs snatching pterosaurs. Probably not gonna work out well for you Pteranodon buddy. Its okay, giant lizards are way cooler than bird-bats with man bodies. #sorrymarkwitton
For #PterosaurPtuesday so here is a reconstruction of a foraging mob of Dimorphodon macronyx I did for my upcoming book. It is also one of my three works currently on display at the @NMMNHS_Paleo Picturing The Past exhibition #pterosaurs #paleoart #PicturingthePastSVP
The fossilized skeletons of pterosaurs - which look quite different from any extant flying vertebrate - baffled many early palaeontologists. One early theory suggested that pterosaurs were flying marsupials.

Finally finished this #paleoart of Rhamphorhynchus mobbing behaviour - three big adults chase a juvenile for its fish prey. The scene is a complete reworking of the opening image from my 2013 book 'Pterosaurs'. There are lots of other images in that book I'd like to redo.
Had a great time chatting with @Dave_Hone yesterday who kindly offered to make some very much appreciated comments and suggestions on my reconstructions of #pterosaurs We had a really interesting conversation! #paleoart #sciart #FossilFriday
