Fragonard created this exquisite image of a young girl reading c1776. The painter worked intuitively when it came to colour & brushwork. His approach is surprisingly modern. A stunning work.

The Merry Drinker (c1628-30) is a famed painting by Hals. It’s both a portrait & a type depiction - here, a happy drunk. Hals’ genius was in his understanding of how brushwork would appear. Eschewing fine detail he painted with broad strokes which give energy to the image
Also, the first image is based on Takehiko Inoue's Vagabond illus 🥺🧡🧡🧡 I could barely do his brushwork/draftsmanship justice tho.
