Could be a product of being right in the middle of that Dungeonpunk era. Maybe its composition, clarity of detail & texture, or color. But I always paid attention to the art of this set. "Nowadays" (for like 10 years now) I have to concentrate on a MTG piece in order to parse it

Also tend to avoid it unless I have a "hook" that makes it easier to follow (balloons, composition, etc.) because of western reading. I think the only time I used it in my current comic was here cuz I thought the same comp would be read like the same moment.
