'Recuerdos del ayer' (1991) se basa en un manga (editado en España como 'Only yesterday') escrito por Hotaru Okamoto y dibujado por Yûko Tone que cuenta las historias de la Taeko de 11 años en 1966. Isao Takahata vertebró la película creando toda la trama de Taeko adulta en 1982.

I was sold on the film before seeing it simply through a comparison to Takahata's version of The Tale of Princess Kaguya and that's incredibly apt. It's an incredibly similar film in a lot of respects.

Also, the use of water colours is astounding.
