@sw_hush_dc I'd like to think he got the name from the wingless dragons of the same name. But sadly, that is not the case...
Snow flies (Chionea) are crane flies (Tipulomorpha) that active during winter, as their body fluid contain glycerol to prevent them from freezing. They are almost wingless, and the space which originally housed by flight muscles are instead use to store their eggs.

The upside to being a wingless derg is that you can wear all kinds of good looking fake wings. Downside is that they're obviously cosmetic only, and does not make you fly!
