another model was found! two separate Pikmin models that have animations of being 'stacked' onto each other, unlike most other Pikmin, these ones use textures rather than vertex colors. when stacked, the large one acts as the 'body' while the small one acts as the 'head'

Something else I wanted to mention was the backgrounds used in the film.
