The scene of the aerial assault is particularly impressive. The animators had access to Disney movies of the 1940s, which are the only comparison in terms of storytelling and technique. But it's only rarely derivative, drawing heavily on domestic animation history.

Been starting to prefer Darkspine over Dark, in terms of design & backstory. I think it's good character that Sonic only reaches a dark, negative form like these through external powerful objects like the World Rings, which FORCEFULLY pulls the negativity and darkness outta Sonic
