A fan of mine was asking. Typically You want to use this method to create lineart from it and clean up after. I might scrap this method tho.

what I know is samurai already wearing oosode(おおそで) as pair of shields. like full plate longsword knights, they prefer both free hands to wield swords swiftly.

and the ashigaru did use big shields, but more like barricades like 15th century european did.
