I just started working on this last night.

Trying to get a nice pose and composition. I'm planning on adding a dark sky and draw eaves crashing against the rock.

Also trying to establish some values.

Any pointers or suggestions?

I did some color tests in the first sketch before refining yesterday. I'm tempted to try for non human skin tone. Will need to play around with values or find a specific seahorse to theme off of 😌

So I decided to try shading with values instead of how I normally shade to a solid result! While it's not perfect I may definitely use it more from here on out. Also this made me think of a way to fix the bad canon I'd made with Vincent's personal arc so I'm v glad for that.

Greyscale version of the Vampi piece -

Note that i work in color first, and then check the values by swapping to grey -- i don't build from grey to color, bc it just gets muddy for me.

Couple of odd spots in the grey, but that's bc i made some artistic calls so it'd print well.

Been working on better values, especially in mid tones, this is all from the hip, but some good successes in the lower body and the red cloth.
