Form affects function. When you need to carry all your tools (and with upgrades, friends in hammerspace), sure, you could use a backpack, but what if you also need to jump to a high ledge or spring off your tail to kick down a door?
Haha! I suppose this kind of fits into #AptoApril and Aptophilia in general, the aptofocus in question being Oreo's ability to form solid constructs out of scent, and how he uses that power to interact with the world around him.
