It's meant to make a STATEMENT―the FEARsome Bat of Gotham LOOMING LARGE―a REAL THREAT to SUPERMAN. The Bat symbol looming large over Superman's symbol of HOPE was a genius move emphasizing the narrative of BvS.

Dale had his shadows, obvs... Evil Dale Cooper is literally the main antagonist of TPtR. But he was entirely external to the hero.
Shinji, on the other hand, had a counterpart, a narrative foil -- and that counterpart wasn't dark, but a perfect glowing paragon of benevolence.
