Today On 4th May 1799 Tipu Sultan was killed at Srirangapatnam, thus bringing to an end of the 4th Mysore war. The EIC soldiers looted all the jewellery of Tipu.
This final assault happened under the command of Lt. Gen. George Harris.

Paddyfields around Mysore, by David Gentleman in his book of watercolours, INDIA.
“These are always lovely, particularly when the rice is young and the flooded fields reflect the sky.”
@shashikantips54 @V_and_A @SushmaJansari @DalrympleWill @Andrew007Uk @NayanBasuu @doubledolphin @JAJafri @hemantsarin @Kieran_drake Tipu and Hyder seemed to have engaged the #British imagination of #Colonial Indian history quite a lot.
1780: Battle of Pollilur
1792: Tipu surrendering his 2 sons to Cornwallis
1799: Capture of Seringapatnam.
All events related to the Anglo-Mysore wars.
11 Mar 1784: The Treaty of #Mangalore is signed by Tipu #Sultan and the British East India Company, ending the Second Anglo-Mysore War in a draw. The treaty is seen as the beginning of the end of the Company and its stock fell dramatically. #otd #ad https://t.co/EP96BWXkYl
By 1829 rockets had been used as fireworks and weapons for centuries. China had been using rockets to propel arrows since the 10th century and in India Mysorean rockets had been used against the British East India Company.

@LACMA @imgarv786 @ssharadmohhan @hemantsarin @IndiaArtHistory @DalrympleWill @metmuseum a painting showing Malaga chetti
jetti or jatti wrestlers fighting with a chakra type of weapon, may be it is Vajra Mushti, potronaged by Mysore royals
@emswam @dpanikkar @KS1729 Correct. Also, it was featured in the Royal Insignia of Mysore Kingdom and it is possible that they borrowed it from Vijayanagara Empire which issued coins with double-headed eagles similar to the one in the painting (holding 4 elephants) in the 16th century.
The sword, casket & ring came from the palace of Tipu, Sultan of Mysore (1750-1799)
After four wars with British,Tipu’s capital fell to the British in 1799 and he was killed during the battle.
Many of his belongings looted by Britisher and kept as trophies
