How it started: How its going:
For the record - its a scanned model, not the original skeleton, or Marengo suspended above Napoleon's tomb

Did you know this painting ("Le Premier Consul franchissant les Alpes" JL David - 1801) started as a commission from the King of Spain IV?
The artist ended up doing 5 variations of this masterpiece which will later be key in the propaganda campaign of Napoleon's empire!

On this 200th anniversary of Napoleon's death let us give pause & contemplation to the elegant af uniforms he made his soldiers wear. Velvet trousers? Red lined cape matching under-armour, different polishes of metal - the fashion detail!

Ever since picking up a copy of "The Minard System" by @srendgen, I am fascinated by his work. You may know his graphic on "Napoleon's Russian campaign", but there is so much more! I tried to reproduce some of his work using #rstats.

Finished “The Hell of 1812” by @BartFunnekotter. A shocking account of the 15.000 Dutch soldiers who fought for Napoleon during the Russian campaign. 10.000 would not return. If it wasn’t for the Dutch engineers’ Napoleon's army would never have escaped across the Berezina river.
Eugene de Beauharnais died #OTD in 1824. As Napoleon's stepson, he proved effective both as Viceroy of Italy and as commander of the Army of Italy.

I finally finished Napoleon's route for the first time. Read Romantic End.
And now I want to know why IkeVamp's vampire rules are inconsistent. 🤨
Also, Napo has a lazy eye that I find endearing and now you will never be able to unsee. Bye!
panic and confusion
The apotheosis of fear-mongering
All is lost in the kingdom of fear
We ran out of nails and horses
And miserably fell for Napoleon's revenge

'Jack Frost attacking Bony'. The horror of Napoleon's invasion of Russia Jun-Dec 1812, and eventual terrible defeat for his Grande Armée, finally beaten into retreat by the Russian winter in a campaign costing 500 000 French lives and 400 000 Russian lives. #wyrdwednesday
Recently finished a project about the role of plants and botany during the French Revolution and I still cannot stop thinking about this 1803 illustration that shows England as a strong oak tree and the French Republic as....a mushroom with Napoleon's face.
