Le manga est inspiré de deux pièces de Shakespeare, Henry VI et Richard III (voir illustration ci-dessous) et reprend son contexte, et plus ou moins ses personnages (même s'il y a des variations, comme celle de Richard à l'origine androgyne)

"Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion’s paws,
And make the earth devour her own sweet brood;
Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tiger’s jaws,
And burn the long-lived phoenix in her blood …"

- William Shakespeare, Sonnet 19

There aren't a lot of great mothers in Shakespeare, curiously.
Dowager Countess of Rousillon in All's Well, Bertram's mum, is a good one. She wants the best for her son & already feels nurturing & maternal toward Helena (the sole herbalist in the canon, btw)

“I'll follow you, I'll lead you about a round,
Through bog, through bush, through brake, through brier:
Sometime a horse I'll be, sometime a hound,
A hog, a headless bear, sometime a fire…”

It's good that this year William Shakespeare's birthday ties in with he was 1564. Obviously his plays & poetry are world-renown but I'd like to celebrate their movie adaptations.

I'm starting work as a translator today so here's a reminder that Ichigo is a goodboy who likes Shakespeare, has writing as his best subject, studies english lit in uni, & works as a translator when he's an adult
