I also did most of the first optional challenge dungeon while on Hard, and ima be honest, this game definitely has a LOT of challenge for those that want it. Optional gear and awesome rewards for beating completely avoidable dragon minibosses shoved right in your face for example

Playing other recent sRPG titles made me realize how obsessed FE is with having evil dragon final bosses.

Honestly to me whenever final bosses turn into giant monsters/dragons they immediately lost their auras.

the only thing really making me iffy was the price point of the DLC and some bosses being too hyper aggressive
