Mercury, from Mercury Exhorting Aeneas to Leave Carthage, 1757

On here's Dido, joint ruler of Phoenician Tyre, driven out by her dastardly brother Pygmalion, who'd killed her husband. She bravely led other refugees to found a new city at Carthage. Before Roman ideologues got involved there was no Aeneas in her story.

"Dido", a new commissioned illustration of the legendary founder and queen of Carthage. I enjoyed researching artifacts and styles from Phoenician culture - lots of Greek, Syrian, Egyptian and other influences.
Also note the reference to the Trojan war in the wall paintings ✨

I've been working on the cults (Muslim & Christian) of St Louis at Carthage & Tunis since 2010. Here's the now-lost chapelle de Saint-Louis, its interior & the current location of its cult statue, erected over his deathbed (steps away from Dido's pyre)– come hear more today @ 5pm https://t.co/ulZaIXPpTk

We’re celebrating with the gorgeous Dominus Julius Mosaic from Carthage.

Dating to the late C4th–early C5th CE, the mosaic captures the daily life of the elite across three registers with a dwelling at the centre.

This piece is held in the Bardo National Museum.

Without doubt Rome has one if not the best infantry of the game alongside the best assault machinery, before the confrontation with Carthage you can consolidate the north of the peninsula and Illyria to expand yourself and make more money, Syracuse can tank the punics for a while

To Carthage I came, where there sang all around me in my ears

a cauldron of unholy loves. I loved not yet, yet I loved to love,

and out of a deep-seated want, I hated myself for wanting not

I sought what I might love, in love with loving
