the main character in my project is terrified of losing himself to the bloodshed of fighting an international neo nazi terrorist organization, and also terrified that any sense of normality in his life is gone forever.

I () like black, red and white. My usual art trends towards the dark/surreal and these colors are very effective for this. I almost worry about being too one-note in this way. Half-Man has been a valuable learning experience for me in this way.

mine are very much muted to reflect on the dark state of the world my characters live in, but i've been adding some (small) splashes of light here and there.

A1 Not sure what defines a compelling character but I guess one of the more fully fleshed out ones is Audrey, the main character

I'd like to think my main heroine is compelling. And I have been told by some that Rosalette is a character they follow with joy

A1 I think Peppermint Twist is a compelling character in my story because she can be spoiled, snobby and self-centered, but she can also be very kind and would do anything to help a friend.

I probably should add here:

The next page after the cover, I usually have a chapter number/title somewhere in it.

Lately I've been incorporating into the image somewhere.

...flames, shipping labels, bottle labels...

Key is just to make it visible enough the reader doesn't have to search for it.

I like to do cover art for each chapter of the story. I've already got the chapter written - at least in first draft - so usually I'm trying to include some of the contents in the cover image as a sort of preview or reference to the contents.

Hey there,

"Not What I Was" is a cyberpunk-ish dystopian setting in which generations of nano/biotech have resulted in a world split by species as much as anything else.

You can be pretty much whatever you want -- if you can pay for it, of course.
