Claude Debussy was born #OnThisDay in 1862. He completed La Mer in 1905. Distancing himself from the symphonies and symphonic poems of the German tradition, he called his piece "three symphonic sketches" instead.
So no, it isn't a symphony.

The sea is lovelier
than the cathedrals,
a faithful wet-nurse,
lulling those in the grip of death,
the sea over which
the Virgin Mary prays...

My #hxhbb2021 entry for @peachiinari “Dancing in a Garden of Moss (With You Between My Arms)” - When the artist fell in love with his creation, literally. As you can see, a lot of Monet and Debussy going on.
Once again happy birthday catboi. And thank you @hxhbb2021 for hosting

In 1974 Isao Tomita did this record reimagining Debussy compositions with synthesizers and mixers. Its just surreal how beautiful this is, Footprints in the Snow is rent free on my head and i found this vinyl for $1 :)
Have a listen https://t.co/ZHXPeuuTg2
La Mer by Debussy; @BrewSolves 's story (my take lol) 1/2
warning a bit bloody in the 4th page btw
I dedicated this piece to Claude Debussy, French pianist, and his “Clair de Lune”.
He was an incredibly dedicated artist but he never sought fame or money.
This piece goes to every artist out there that creates art for the sake of creating art — not for any other reason. (4/4)

Ida Rubinstein as St. Sebastian in “Le Martyre de Saint Sebastien”, a play with music by Debussy & costumes by Leon Bakst. The play received backlash from the Catholic Church because the title saint was not only played by a woman, but a Jewish woman. More: https://t.co/sTYT9Xmrz8
