In 1737,Ehret,flower painter, observed the buds of #Magnolia #grandiflora opening into perfumed pure white flowers. In his study, it is not yet identified with the modern name 'grandiflora'. As many of the new plants from America,Magnolias were killed by the Great Frost in 1739-40

Fabulous magnolias now in bloom evoke G.D.Ehret’s illustration of Magnolia from Plantae Selectae 1772 held in Botany collections @Museum_Cardiff.
Ehret walked daily to the gardens of Sir Charles Wager to observe the magnolias there.
