This piece I made in November 2021...😅😅😅
Looking back, 2022 was a year of learning. I learnt a lot about art fundamentals and plan to keep learning and evolving.
2023 has started strong in many aspects, i can only hope it continues as strong.

@EwylanaR These are basically 1 year apart. I think my lighting and rendering especially got better. All the other fundamentals too, but those two are the main ones imo
The Owl House is my excuse to practice my art fundamentals. Haven't drawn Amity in a while, enjoy

Left 2011:
Couldn't even sell my art for $15
Right 2022:
Selling my art for $150+
Left:
Broken anatomy
Coloring outside the lines
Poor understanding of shape language, fundamentals, weight, dynamics
Right:
11 long ass years of improving on those weak points

Has anyone else experienced this? For so long I thought that extreme rendering would cover up my mistakes and because of that belief i didnt focus on my fundamentals. But now i realise less is more for me and rendering is overrated

From a certain friend's word, yes. Anyone with a great patience and understanding on fundamentals, can draw a nice background. It's just very exhausting, so I would never draw a serious version of KLCC anymore. 💦
@A_10_Art tbh i would say a hard 6, but a 5.5 if i’m being honest. i like the ‘aspects’ of my art, but i just don’t think i have those fundamentals yet that would make me a ‘top artist’. + i’ve been doing a ton of experimenting in my style & i think i fall short sometimes.

#tradarttuesday comes from French illustrator and character designer @mohsqi, who created an in-depth tutorial for us in issue 215. Marcel covered the fundamentals of using watercolour and Indian ink to create a stylised action pose.

We can't say enough about Jon Neimeister's (@Andantonius) wonderful "Fundamentals of Character Design" class, taught by someone who worked for years as a lead concept artist for SMITE.⚡ 🌩️
Who wants to join me in doing the 30 days drawing challenge? Lets build a habit together. It's all fundamentals and doesn't even require coloring unless you want to.
