On ne le sait pas toujours mais Marianne Werefkin est morte à Ascona. Sa fondation consacre une exposition à la relation intellectuelle et surtout artistique, qu’elle a vécu de 1891 à 1921 avec Alexej Jawlensky, des prémices du Blau Reiter à l’abstraction.

When the Great War broke out the couple moved to Switzerland. They split in 1918. Wilna (1914), Sturmwind (1914-5), Ameisenhaufen(c1916) & Fantastic Night (1917). Von Jawlensky had cheated on her & her work seemed to reflect her heightened stress at this time

Expelled from Germany in 1914, Jawlensky moved to Switzerland. After a hiatus in experimentation with the human form, Jawlensky produced perhaps his best-known series, the Mystical Heads (1917–19).
