A lot of so called "cryptid" sightings turn out to be misidentified owls. So next time you see eyes shining in the dark, or hear strange noises from the treetops, remember that it's most likely a common owl.

Continuing with my digital art, here is a demon oc of mine. His name is Stolas. In traditional demonology Stolas is depicted as an owl, the mothman was also a misidentified owl, therefore, Stolas is a mothman.
He is 250 cm tall, Chaotic Evil, and collects garbage.

I've been thinking about making a documentary on cryptozoology. One thing I find interesting is what can be misidentified as a paranormal creature. For instance I'm pretty sure Dogman is a bear with mange, and sea serpents are just whale penises.
@ToniKaoir out swim them speed wise. Also for the question "where do we get these ideas from?" Probably from misidentifying already existing animals, from sightings or fossils.
My favourite example of this is with the elasmotherium spawning the unicorn legend
