I feel so honored to have been asked to paint another Planeswalker! I am really grateful to the Art Director, Ovidio Cartagena, for the opportunity to paint Kaya. I love Phyrexians also, so having them in the background was so much fun 💜
God Tibalt even got fucking Phyrexianized and turned into a metal monstrosity and he still gets fucking bodied by the first person who looks at him every storyline lol
the marble sacrifical altar in the background was a big level up moment for me. I need to return to more backgrounds like it - it was immensely pleasurable to paint. I can't remember what i'd intended those phyrexian markings to say. I think its direct quotes from the altar cards
Todays good father is Jin-gitaxias from Magic The Gathering! Phyrexians aren't born, they're grown in labs. Jin-gitaxias in particular invests tons of time and research into making sure the phyrexians he makes are absolutely perfect, making sure they get the nutrition they need.
